Design Challenge II - Vein Network Man

originalvnmWhat is Design Challenge II?
Okay, I have an idea for a challenge that is not too difficult, so newer people won't be intimidated.

One of the things I notice on the Draw disks is some of the strange (read totally useless) clip art they have included. Among all the good files, are some that are very esoteric. Those under the "Medical" category come to mind. Oh yeah, everyday  I'm designing cards and posters with a labelled diagram of the human muscular system. Aren't we all--what were they thinking when they put this together?

It's very easy to take a piece of clip art like this in a program like Paint Shop Pro and make a wildly surrealistic painting, but what neat things could we do with it in Draw?

I don't know how Draw 7 compares with Draw 6 as far as what clip art is included, but in Draw 6 on the Contents (B) disk there is:

Medical>Anatomy 1>Vein Network

Okay, let's use this specific clip art and make some great art in Draw. You can use any template you want and make anything you wish: card, box, bookmark, calendar, or something else. You can do anything you want with it--slice, ungroup, crop, re-colour, fill, special effects etc., BUT it has to be done in Draw--no taking it into PhotoMagic, PSP or similar editing programs to tweak it, and you HAVE to use this exact picture.

Let's do something unusual completely in Draw; let's show people what really creative people can do with a picture no one wants to use ;-).

And now for the entries... (click the thumbnails for a larger view)

I took the vein network, deleted all the framework and organs, leaving just the veins. Then I copied and rotated until I had a full circle.  I used the gradient background to compliment the inner vein color.

I think It could possibly be used as a decorative notecard, but I would use corner punches  and fiskars to liven it up a bit!

Placed over a background I had previously designed in Draw. Grouped and saved. This looks great over all sorts of other backgrounds - not just the one I used.

Then I removed most of his organs, leaving just the veins. I colored the veins with a gradient fill to make them look like electrical wiring. The whole concept is just a little fantasy of mine... a girl can dream, can’t she?

Then I converted it to an image and applied the charcoal effect--gives him a glowing beveled look. Then I took a second copy and applied the graphic pen effect. The tiled background is one of the default patterns from Draw. The rectangles at the sides were filled with a gradient and then I applied colour noise and the offset tile effect. The font is Castellar.

Lucille's box card template is masquerading as a sarcophagus here; I changed the line and colour to a fancier bi-coloured one, and tiled an Egyptian picture for the background. Basically, I deleted everything in the clip art but the outline and filled the VNM with different colours after resizing him. The "spacer" between the glyphs is a section of his renal vein. The other motifs are from the fonts Gyptienne, Nahkt, and Meroitic Hieroglyphics.

I sliced the body apart to color the top, bottom, shoes, hands, and head each separately. I added color to the eyes, filled the shirt, added buttons, hair, and recolored the hands and shoes.  I extended the arms for an ape look. In image effects, I used the gaussian blur on the pants.

I did it so long ago I really do not remember exactly what I did.  I think, crystallize, ripple, stucco, color reduction of some sort,
seamless and watercolor.
