Better Gradients
Pencil
Have you noticed how a gradient in Draw usually looks banded? If you go to View/Refresh at High Quality (Shift + F3), you'll see that the banding isn't quite as bad as it seemed, but it still kind of wrecks the effect. Well I discovered that you can use Draw to accomplish a little trick I use often in Paintshop Pro.

  1. Create a shape and fill it with a gradient. Note that the further apart your colors are, red and green for instance, the less effective this will be. Try using, for now, two shades of the same color. When you've got your colors just right, go to the next step.
  2. Go to Tools/Image Effects (or click the last button on the Drawing toolbar if you have that showing). Once your image is rasterized, choose the Distortion/Add Noise effect. Click the Add Noise button if you're not familiar with the concept of Noise. If your colors aren't too wildly different, an Intensity of plus/minus 2 or so should be sufficient. Frequency will vary. Experiment and click the preview button often.

Try the Color Noise effect for a different look. If your colors ARE way different, you may get better results by using Gscribbleaussian Blur or using Add Noise twice.
